Photography That Is YOU, But Make It Art

My Editing Philosophy: You, But Make It Art

Let’s talk about retouching because this is important.
I adjust lighting and color. I make sure you’re glowing in the way you deserve. I’ll absolutely edit out that random chin hair you’ll fixate on, and yes, if there’s a pimple that’s bothering you, it’s gone.
But here’s what I won’t do: I won’t make you look like someone else.
I won’t liquify your body into an unrecognizable shape. I won’t smooth out every line and texture until you look like a plastic rendering of a human.
Why? Because when you look at these photos years from now, I want you to recognize yourself. I want you to remember this version of you—the one who was brave enough to show up authentically.
The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is you, captured in a way that highlights your best while honoring your truth.

Preparing for Your Session (Or: How to Not Overthink This)

An intimate photography session at Studio Von YEG is about an hour. That’s it. One hour where the focus is entirely on you.
Here’s what I tell my clients before we shoot:
Drink your water. Hydrated skin photographs beautifully, but more importantly, hydrated humans feel better.
Don’t rush. Give yourself time to arrive without being frazzled. Your energy matters.
Breathe. Seriously. Deep breaths throughout. It helps more than you’d think.
Stretch. We’re going to be moving and shifting positions. Loose muscles = more comfortable poses.
I also have a prep doc if you want it—tips on what to wear, what to bring, how to mentally prepare. But honestly? The best preparation is deciding to show up as yourself and trusting that I’ll handle the rest.
Because I will.

What My Clients Say

I could tell you all day how this works, but honestly, my clients say it better than I ever could.

Here’s what people have shared in their Google reviews
“She’s so quick, kind, and patient!”
“I can’t say enough about how positive my experience with Kayte”
“Kayte is absolutely amazing in making you feel comfortable and bringing the vision alive.”

These aren’t just nice words—they’re evidence of what’s possible when you let someone see you authentically.

You’re Already Ready

If you’ve read this far, you’re probably curious. Maybe a little nervous. Maybe wondering if photography thing is “for you.”
Let me answer that: Yes. It’s for you.
It’s for the person who’s never felt comfortable in their body.
It’s for the person celebrating a milestone—a birthday, a divorce, surviving something hard.
It’s for the person who wants to give their partner something meaningful.
It’s for the person who just wants to feel seen and beautiful for no reason other than existing.
You don’t need to lose weight, or shave, or dye your hair, or wait until your pimple is gone.
You need to decide that the you who exists right now is worth celebrating.
And then you need to let me prove it to you.

2026

I’m so proud of my growth. I’m a storytelling photographer who moves fluidly between candid, portrait, and editorial work. I’ve been published many times, my photography is on shirts, album covers, patches, in magazines and more. I can’t wait to see how I grow.

2023

In 2023, I made a commitment to myself and launched Studio Von YEG—building the photography community I always wanted to be part of. After so much life change I decided to chose myself, to love myself and to become the photographer I always dreamed of.

2014

In a bit of a midlife crisis ( at 25yrs old) I bought a new camera… I personally love the Lumix line so I stayed true to it and grabbed the Lumix GH4.

I started with taking photos and videos of personal travel, then slowly started to take photos for friends and family.

2005

I tried going “professional”, only to find an industry drowning in gossip and toxicity where everyone suddenly had a camera but few had pride in their work.

So I stepped back, kept shooting for the love of it, and quietly got better.

2004

Music photography became my heartbeat early on, and for years I was the friend with the camera: parties, concerts, travel, behind-the-scenes of film sets.

2003

At 14 I dove headfirst into film photography and darkroom development alongside my sister at our local college.

After saving up for a Lumix DMC-G1, I decided I wanted to become a photographer.

I had zero clue how digital worked—so I just figured it out.
